1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

This morning I was prompted to focus on this verse. As I looked at some other study aids this commentary inspired me in regards to the word “rejoice”: “the translation (of rejoice) makes it clear that an action or attitude is involved.”

Wow…rejoice isn’t a warm, fluffy feeling! REJOICE is an ACTION!
I learned that in another book that Paul wrote, the book of Philippians, he used the Greek word for joy and rejoicing 16 times in only 104 verses. And it was written while he was in prison! That is definitely taking ACTION!

Are you choosing to REJOICE today? And please take some time now to pray for our friends, Pastor Ron and Linda and their family in Belize!

Prayer: Lord, today help each of us to choose to REJOICE! Touch Pastor Ron and Linda and their family today and help them to REJOICE! Let the love of Christ saturate their home and their ministry. Be exalted in their lives and in ours! And thank You, Lord, for each prayer warrior that stands beside Oasis Ministry in Belize! AMEN

Colossians 3:14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Many years ago, Stan and I met Pastor Ron and Linda Braaten. Some relationships “fade” over time, but this is a relationship that has continued, Never could we have imagined all that God had in store for all of us and for the Nation of Belize.Next week, January 21-27 is truly a “defining” moment, as saints from all over the USA will descend upon the Oasis Ministry base to build HOUSE #100!

We are so thrilled to be a part of God’s work! It will be wonderful to gather with other saints (some that we have yet to meet) and to provide a unified effort in building this “Centennial” House. God, You are GOOD!

Take a moment and pray with me:

Lord, we thank You for the love You are pouring out in our hearts so that we can give sacrificially for the building of House #100 in Belize. Please continue to bless the ministry of Pastor Ron and Linda Braaten and the Oasis Ministry staff as they bless Belize! Open doors for greater ministry to happen in 2018 in Your Name. As we gather in Belize for this special project, please truly unite our hearts with Your vision and mission and please keep everyone safe! In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!

woman_prayingPsalm 107:28-30 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven

Many of us say, “There is power in prayer.” But my question to myself and others today is “Do I really believe this?” I’d be the first to admit that sometimes prayer becomes wearying. But in the weary places, I hear the Lord’s command: “Keep fighting the good fight!”

Please don’t give up on prayer because at its very core it is intimate communication with our Lord. I know that the enemy would love to make us think that there is no power in prayer. He would love to have us stop talking with God. Don’t buy into the enemy’s lie that there is no power in prayer. If we remain connected to the POWERFUL God of this universe and He directs us, we have all POWER at our disposal.

Take a moment today and pray with me for Ron and Linda:

Lord, we cry out today for our friends, Ron and Linda. We ask You to bring healing to their physical bodies. We ask You to loose Your power over Oasis Ministry. We ask You to pour in Your balm of healing and comfort in all areas where they are raw and weary. Bless the work of their hands, Lord. Let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done through Oasis Ministry. And we ask for an abundance of financial support so that the purchase of the land can be completed. We also ask you to bless those surrounding Ron and Linda now as their support system. Refresh Andrew, Tiffany, Sondra, Melvin as they hold up Ron and Linda’s arms. We ask in Jesus’ Name. AMEN

…humbly accept the word planted in you,
James 1:21

Today I am meditating on only one portion of James 1:21. The word “accept” really “pops” out for me as I read this scripture. Several meanings for the Greek word translated here as “accept” are “I take” and “I welcome.” I believe that all of us need to ask the Holy Spirit to really teach us how to take or welcome His Word into our hearts. Reading the Word and checking that off our list each day is not enough. The Word is meant to go deep and to change us. I know that our missionaries Ron and Linda and their staff in Belize are very busy with ministry. On our recent visit, I became more aware than ever of how hard they work for the sake of the gospel. Let’s pray for them and for all of us that wehave “carved” out quiet times to be in the Word of God and that as we do that we will “take” and “welcome” the word into our hearts.

Prayer: Lord, show us how to truly “take” and “welcome” Your Word into our hearts. May You find good and fertile soil there to plant Your Word. And may we bear much fruit for Your Kingdom. Please bless our missionaries, Ron and Linda, and their staff with rich times in Your presence. Protect them and their family and all that concerns them. For Your glory, Lord! We pray in Your Name, Jesus! AMEN

Psalms 29:2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness.

I am currently in a “when it rains, it pours season” of life.  But I know that when the rains end, the flowers come. I am looking forward to that next season with the Lord.  But while I am in this challenging season, I am choosing to be a worshipper and not a whiner. Much of this is inspired by the book “Choosing Gratitude” by Nancy Leigh DeMoss, that I am currently studying with a lovely group of ladies in Laramie, Wyoming, where I live.  I hope that you are choosing worship today in the midst of your circumstances.  Remember that worship is a choice that we must make daily.  And as you pray, please lift up our missionaries, Ron and Linda and their Belizean family.  They face challenges everyday as they fulfill the calling upon their lives.  Please pray that their lives would also be filled with worship.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You have done so much for us and how can we ever say a big enough “Thank You?”  You were despised on our behalf and You never complained about us to the Father, but You accepted Your mission humbly.  What an example You have presented for each of us.  Help us today to be worshippers and not whiners!

This song is really helping me to worship today!

for grateful hearts for all of us!

I have been on a journey towards gratefulness.  I don’t know about you, but sometimes circumstances press upon my heart and gratefulness seems to evaporate.  I wonder how I can be ungrateful when my Savior has given so much for me?  As I write this, I am so thankful for the grace that He extends daily even when I feel like I totally fail Him.  He picks me up and fills me with HIs Spirit anew and onward we go!  So I want to pray for our missionaries, Ron and Linda and for missionaries everywhere.  I also want to pray for grateful hearts for all of us.  We, too, are missionaries right where we are.  But before I pray, I share a compelling thought that I read in “Choosing Gratitude~Your Journey to Joy” by Nancy Leigh DeMoss:

“Is the gratitude that flows out of your life as abounding as the grace that has flowed into your life?”

Let’s Pray:

Lord, we pray for our missionaries, Ron and Linda and family.  We pray for missionaries all over the world including us!  Circumstances in the world seem dark and foreboding, but they do not change WHO YOU ARE!  Help us to walk with grateful hearts that truly witness to the world around us of the GOODNESS OF OUR GOD!  In Jesus’ Name, AMEN

At the beginning of each year, I ask the Lord for a scriptural focus. As I was praying for 2017, He led me to Lamentations 3:22-23:

22Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

I was also doing the “One Word” devotional on the You Version Bible. This devo encouraged me to ask the Lord for one word to pray about this year. As I prayed for a few days about it, I finally felt that my “word” for this year is NEW. I love how the Lord works! This one word fits beautifully with the thought in the verse above: His compassions are NEW every morning.

Isn’t it wonderful to know that no matter what we are facing, the Lord has compassion for us each and every day. I loved this thought from a devo this morning:

“Enjoy your day, knowing that God loves you perfectly. Don’t dread the bad things that you must do today, because God is on your side and is ready to help you.”

~From the book Starting Your Day Right by Joyce Meyer

Prayer: Lord, as I pray and seek You, I thank You for the NEW things that You present to me each day. Help me to embrace the NEW things that You have for me. Help me to not fear the unfamiliar places You may be leading. Help me to remember that Your compassions for me are NEW every morning.
Lord, continue to bless Oasis Ministry in Belize with Your presence, provision and power. We want to bear much fruit for You!

Thank you to all who have been praying for Ron today.  We have had word that he is out of surgery and all is well.  We don’t have any more details right now, but I wanted to let all of our prayer warriors know that your prayers have been effective.  Now comes the road to recovery.  Please continue to pray as he deals with the pain and boredom that will come with recuperation.  And please pray for Linda and the rest of the family as they do what they can to care for him and help to keep his spirits lifted. God is good and we trust Him for a full recovery……….Candice (Ron’s daughter)

Merry Christmas to all! I am writing this on Christmas Eve (day) and pray that each of you has had a worshipful Advent season. There are so many changes in our nation and in our world right now. I encourage you to keep your eyes upon the Lord the “unchangeable” One!

Hebrews 13:8New International Version (NIV)
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

There have been many changes at Oasis Ministry, too. Mt. Hope Bible Church has moved off the base and into their own building. This will free the base for some new ministry opportunities in 2017.

And of course, my heart today is pressed with the need to pray for Pastor Ron as he has a big surgery soon to repair his leg. There will be a long recovery, but I am thankful that Ron is home in Belize this time so that Linda can keep a close watch on him!

Pray for me for Pastor Ron:
Lord, we speak total healing over Pastor Ron in Jesus’ Name. Guide the hands of the surgeon in Belize with the Hands of the Great Physician. Help Pastor Ron to be patient in the recovery time as You know that he desires to always be doing Your work. Help him to wait upon You. Help Linda as she cares for Ron. Also, bless Andrew as he returns to Belize to help during this time.

Please continue in prayer for Pastor Ron as the Lord directs you.

Reach Out to God

Acts 17:27New International Version (NIV)

27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.

Sometimes God feels distant and we feel weary.  As I am thinking about this and writing, I would pose a question:  When was the last time you reached out to God?

I have been dealing with “busyness” for a number of years, especially in the area of ministry.  And I have found that sometimes even God’s ministry can make me too busy for God.  Ugh!  How sad is that?

BUT…here’s the beautiful truth:  When I reach out to God, I FIND HIM, because He has been there all along!

So as you pray today, why not take a moment to just be with Him.  He is waiting!
